An Austrian classic with sweet apples, cinnamon and a crispy pastry shell. Perfect served warm with vanilla sauce.
Combine the flour, egg, salt, oil and lukewarm water in a bowl and knead into a smooth dough. Brush the dough with oil, wrap in cling film and let rest for 30 minutes.
In the meantime, mix the apple slices with sugar, cinnamon, raisins and rum in a bowl and let them steep.
Roll the dough out thinly on a floured cloth, then carefully stretch it over the backs of your hands until it is almost transparent.
Brush the melted butter over the dough and spread the breadcrumbs evenly on top. Spread the apple mixture along one long side of the dough.
Carefully roll up the strudel with the help of the cloth. Place it on a greased baking sheet and brush with the remaining butter.
Bake in the preheated oven at 180°C for about 40 minutes until golden brown. Serve warm and enjoy with vanilla sauce if you like.
💡 Stretch the strudel dough especially thin to get a crispy shell.
